Health Care Spending Account

A health care spending account (HCSA) provides you with the flexibility and choice to cover expenses that are either not eligible under the FlexLife program or have limited coverage.

Eligible expenses are reasonable medical expenses not reimbursed by any government sponsored or private health care plan and must qualify as a medical expense under the Canada Revenue Agency Income Tax Act.

Eligible expenses include, but are not limited to, the following;

  • coverage amounts limited by co-insurance, deductibles or annual maximums
  • paramedical practitioners, glasses and contact lenses, medical equipment and supplies or dental care

Benefits paid under an HCSA are not considered a taxable benefit, except in the province of Quebec.

For more information regarding your health care spending account and eligible expenses, please refer to your FlexLife Benefits Guide, HCSA List of Eligible Expenses or reference the Medavie Blue Cross member site.
